AWS Entry Welder Modules

Module 1 Safety and Health of Welders 24 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on welding safety. Emphasis will be placed on the hazards of working around metals of different types, gasses that welders work with on a daily bases, and mobile equipment guidelines and requirements for transporting gases.

Module 2 Thermal Cutting Processes 24 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on Oxyfuel (Oxygen & Acetylene) welding and cutting. Practical applications of Oxyfuel welding, Oxyfuel cutting, soldering and brazing will set the foundation for almost all welding occupations. Emphasis will be placed on safety, and proper operation of the oxyacetylene torch.

Module 3 Drawing and Weld Symbol Interpretation 48 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on reading and interpreting welding prints, mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and practical mathematics for welders. Emphasis is placed on Orthographic Projection, line types, and welding symbols.

Module 4 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) 52 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and the equipment and procedures involved. Students will receive training on the latest quality equipment on the market and will complete numerous hours of welding in different positions along with completing various types of welds.

Module 5 Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) 52 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) also know as Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG). Students will receive instruction on the setup and operation of a MIG welding machine and perform welding of various joints in the FHV & O positions.

Module 6 Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) 52 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW). Students will receive instruction on the setup and operation of a Flux Cored Arc Welding machine and perform welding of various joints in the FHV & O positions.

Module 7 Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) 52 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) also referred to as Tungsten Inert Gas Welding or TIG. Students will receive instruction on the welding equipment, setup and adjustments as well as hands-on training for welding in various positions and different types of metals.

Module 8 Occupational Orientation 24 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on how to prepare for the work force. Emphasis will be placed on resume writing, job searching, following direction written and verbal, and how to keep and maintain employment.

Module 9 Welding Inspection and Testing 24 Hrs
This course will provide instruction on Welding Procedure Specifications and the Welder Performance Qualifications tests for the most common of welding procedures. An examination of various welding procedure specification (WPS), welding test positions and the testing involved will prepare the student for performance qualification testing. The welding student will have completed numerous practice hours welding and several of the procedures during the duration of the program to afford them the ability to take a performance qualification test according to the WPS and be successful.
